My top ten singles for 2007

I love end of the year lists…and here’s my own picks for the top ten tracks of 2007:

thomyorke.jpg 1. Thom Yorke – The Clock (Surgeon Remix)

Killer remix of the first single off of Thom Yorke’s awesome 2006 solo album “The Eraser”

jt.jpg 2. Justin Timberlake – Lovestoned (Justice Remix)

Justice takes the strings from this track and squeezes squealchy disco electro goodness from them.

BONUS – runner-up JT track:
Justin Timberlake – My Love (RUF Dubstep Remix)

coolkids.jpg 3. Cool Kids – I Rock

Geeky 80’s old school hip hop with some seriously dope beats. Listen to the bass on this track!

dabrye.jpg 4. Dabrye – Encoded Flow (feat Kadence)

Technically this is from 2006 but I played this album well into 2007. Dark 80s sci-fi and horror film sampled hip hop beats thumping on a buzzy bassline: Dabrye is hip hop in a Bladerunner world.

yuki.jpg 5. Yuki – The End of Shite

This one of those songs you end up liking because you the video is so damn great. Oh and the song title’s pretty awesome too. Super catchy rock influenced J-pop.

burial.jpg 6. Burial – Near Dark

Burial is like a 21st century Massive Attack – he makes brooding, dark, romantic music dripping with atmosphere and haunting samples. Music for 4am city people. One of the standout producers in the new burgeoning dubstep scene.

smd.jpg 7. Simian Mobile Disco – Hustler (A-Trak Remix)

2007 is the year of SMD. “Hustler” came out as a single in 2006 but got was released on SMD’s LP “Attack Delay Sustain Release” in 07. Electro house hotness so good that its almost ridiculous.

BONUS – Runner-up SMD track:
The Presets – Are You the One? (Simian Mobile Disco Remix)

radiohead_eve.jpg 8. Radiohead vs Eve – Tambourine Reckoner (mashup)

Eve rapping on top of a Radiohead riff…sounds crazy but it actually works. Check out other great mashups on The Hood Internet

nicole.jpg 9. Nicole Scherzinger feat. T.I. – Whatever U Like

This is one of the few guilty pleasure songs that I’m willing to admit I listen to. The beat just kills it for me here.

ttc.jpg 10. TTC – Paris Paris

I have no idea what these French dudes are saying but I love their sound: fun jumpy electro hip hop beats and unique MCing style
